I agree with Rich, you can install the Vista x64 in Vista compatible mode first. Right-click the exe. File and choose Properties. Under the Compatibility tab, please check the ''Run this program in compatibility mode for'' and choose ''Windows Vista''. Check the box before “Run this program as an Administrator” below. Click OK to save the settings. Follow the instruction to install the driver, and test. If this camera still failed to work, you can try to update the driver in the Device Manager. Right Click the camera with yellow triangle in the Device Manager, and choose properties. Switch to ''Driver'' tab, and choose ''Update driver software''. I hope this can help you. I have a Rebel XT, so the settings might be a little different. I pushed the ''menu'' button on the back of the camera, which brings up several camera setting menus, such as picture quality, display settings, and so on. The ''communication'' option on my camera is on the far right drop down menu, which is identified with a little wrench and a number two. Once I was on there, I just scrolled down and selected the communication option to choose between the two options. Granted, our two cameras are going to be a little different, but they should be similar. When in doubt, consult your owner''s manual for communication option, or something like that. You can always download the manual from canon''s website. Hope it works out for you. Trust me, I share your frustration. I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT and did manage to get it to work on Windows 7 64bit: Disconnect the camera from the computer. Turn the camera on. Press the MENU key on the camera. Use the arrow keys to select the TOP BAR (TABS). Select the RIGHT MOST TAB (Picture of tools #2). Scroll down to the option CONNECTION change it to PRINT/PTP. This utility contains the only official version for Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XSi Driver for Windows XP/7/Vista/8/8.1/10 32bit and 64bit versions. Dec 27, 2009 windows 7 64 bit canon rebel xti. Function with Windows 7 64bit. Including Canon to work on my Windows 7 64bit. And my Canon EOS Rebel XT. Connect camera to the computer. It should now work. Please note you may need the Windows Live installed for the ability to download (not sure, but I had it installed). Link thing: Good luck! I believe I have a solution for you and any other XTi owners who don''t have the ''Print/PTP'' option in their menu. I was able to get my XTi to function with Windows 7 64-bit last night. Here is what I did: 1) Installed the default Canon utilities disk that came with the camera (which installed without an issue, but wouldn''t recognize the camera). 2) I downloaded the updated EOS Utility version 2.6.1 for Windows Vista x64 from here: 3) I installed the default Canon utilities disk that came with the camera (which installed and opened without an issue, but wouldn''t recognize the camera to download pictures). 4) I executed the 2.6.1 EOS Utility update that I downloaded and received the following error: ''Installation program of EOS Utility requires administrator priveleges'' even though it was being run as an administrator. Any compatibility options that I selected on the installation resulted in the same error. 5) When you receive the error mentioned in the prior step, DON''T click the ''OK'' button. First, navigate to the follwing path: '' C:\Users\ admin-user\AppData\Local\Temp\''. Inside this directory, you should see a directory named something like ''CanonUPW_000''. Copy this whole directory to another location, then click ''OK'' on the installation program error on the screen (which removes the directory you just copied). 6) Open the directory that you copied in the last step and navigate to the following location: ''.\CanonUPW_000\INST\INSTALL\COMMON''. You should find an ''Install.exe'' file in this directory. 7) Open the properties of this ''Install.exe'' file, then select the ''Compatibility'' tab. 8) S elect the ''Change settings for all users'' button and s elect the ''Run this program in compatibility mode for:'' and select ''Windows XP (Service Pack 3). 9) Under the ''Privilege Level'' section, select the ''Run this program as an administrator'', then c lick OK twice. 10) Execute the ''Install.exe'' file. The installation should start and finish succeffully. 11) The EOS Utility should successfully open after you execute it (following the installation). 12) The only thing that doesn''t work exactly the same as with using EOS Utility with XP. When you plug your camera in, the program doesn''t automatically open. After opening the EOS Utility, you can connect the camera and download pictures, or utilize the software''s remote control function. I hope this works as well for you as it did for me. I started to do as ''XTi User'' did above, but to my surprise, I didn''t have to go past step 4 as I actually didn''t get an error message when installing version 2.6.1 for Vista x64 (on my Windows 7 machine). It installed cleanly as far as I can tell (no errors or funny messages), and I just finished using it for the first time exactly as I used to with my old XP machine. I can even set it to open when the camera is connected, as it should do. I didn''t do anything special, just straight up download / install, done. Hello All, I am having a different problem that is not addressed here: Details: Camera is Rebel xt. I would like to control the camera from the ''EOS Utility'' software provided by Canon from the Laptop that has 64bit win-7. A) I cannot find any 64bit drivers at the canon website (neither vista nor win-7). B) in the camera setting I have to use PC Connection for the intended purpose. I think all that I need is he 64bit canon driver. Can anyone provide me with the link. Thanks a lot IT IS VERY DISCOURTEOUS TO HIJACK A THREAD FOR AN UNRELATED QUESTION! START YOUR OWN THREAD FOR YOUR QUESTION! This one worked great for me! I''m going to try to post this link in other areas as well. I have a Canon XTi ''back'' and a new HP laptop with Windows 7 home premium. Using the installation discs that came with the camera, (EOS Digital Solution Disc ver. 13.1) everything seemed to install and run correctly - until I plugged in the ''old'' camera. Windows 7 will not recognize the Canon XTi without this critically important software upgrade! The upgrade works like a charm. I sure wish I''d found this site 4 hours (and dozens of searches) ago! '' Roses'' someone at Canon for the upgrade. '' Thorns'' to Canon for burying the fix! Hope this works for others as well. The ''old'' XTis are nice cameras. ( Funny, ''old camera'' used to mean something 20 years old.now it''s 20 months old). Many thanks XTi user! I have the same issue using Windows 7 64bit with all three of my Canon cameras. My computer worked fine unitil June 27th 2010. Thats when my cameras would not connect to computer. IT IS NOT THE CAMERA OR CANON''s ISSUE!! Windows 7 detects and connects the camera. Canon has 64bit application software on there web site under downloads. When I plug in camera to usb port I get MTP device failed to load code 31. I get a code 10 when I plug in my thumb drive. Uninstalled all usb ports in device manager and reinstall. Reload software, restore windows 7, update chip set, edit registry, update drivers etc etc etc none of these worked. Did the remove battery and hold the power button did not work. The only fix that worked for a few days was to reloaded windows 7. It worked for three days now it is back doing same thing. I suspect a Windows update is creating the issue. So far I have not found a solution. Im not the only one having issue with windows 7 usb. System requirements 1. Caution 1.Please do not use the Canon RAW Codec and the RAW image processing function of ZoomBrowser EX together. 2.There are cases where the RAW file metadata that was edited under an environment in which Canon RAW Codec 1.7 or later is installed is not available for browsing under an environment in which Canon RAW Codec 1.3 or earlier installed. When sharing a RAW file, use the same version in every environment. 3.Because there has been a change in the RAW image processing for the EOS DIGITAL products, there may be some differences in RAW image display and printing results when comparing with those of Canon RAW Codec 1.3 or earlier. 4.If a Vista PC with Canon RAW Codec installed is upgraded to Windows7, Canon RAW Codec will not function. As a workaround, uninstall Canon RAW Codec first, and then reinstall Canon RAW Codec again after the OS upgrade. ( If Canon RAW Codec is installed after the upgrade, there will be no problems.).
